The Patricia Brotherhood
Upon graduation from Cal Poly, Nick’s dad, Dan, encouraged us to do an annual trip together to gather, to reminisce on old memories, and to make new ones together. There were six of us boys in the “Patricia” crew at Cal Poly. As far as I’m concerned, there are still six of us here today, and we will forever be six strong every time we gather together.
We have kept the commitment to each other to do this annual trip. The first of which, Nick planned, and despite recovering from ACL surgery and uncertain weather conditions, coordinated with Brooke’s dad, Eug, to equip our team with gear and successfully float down the Colorado river together.
The second of which, was Sky’s turn to plan. He decided Zihuatanejo was our destination, and our activity was to surf. In classic fashion, Nick arrived one week early with his girlfriend Brooke, to make a memory of their own and get a lay of the land to show his boys the beauty of the area and where all the best waves were when we arrived. That was my favorite memory of Nick - arriving in a foreign country, leaving the airport, and seeing a familiar, smiling face, in flip-flops, Patagonia board shorts, and sunglasses. He had a rack of Tecates in the car and couldn’t be more excited to show us around.
Every time we gather together, Nick will be there with us and we will carry his legend onward. We all now have a duty to do more, go harder, see further, and love deeper… and we will do exactly that… in the spirit of Nick, just as Nick Would every day of his life. Our future friends, families, and children will always know there was a sixth in the Patricia gang and will grow up hearing stories of ‘Uncle Nick’ who embodied the spirit of adventure we all dreamt of together.
We love you forever and cannot imagine the waves you are scoring, wherever you are. 💙
